Indecision is More Than Just a Pause in the Road; It is a Slow Erosion of Purpose.

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service". Romans 12:1

In our last conversation, we looked at the danger of the "middle ground." We identified the "fence" as that place of false safety where we try to balance our worldly comforts with our spiritual desires. But once we recognize the fence for the trap that it is, we often face a second, more subtle temptation: the temptation to wait.

We tell ourselves we’ve stepped off the wire, but we linger at the base of the fence, hesitant to take the next step into the fire. We treat this as a "pause" in the road, but in the Kingdom of God, there is no such thing as standing still. Indecision is not a neutral waiting room; it is a slow erosion of your purpose.

The Myth of the Neutral Zone

We think the space at the foot of the fence is a safe place to weigh our options, but a "living sacrifice" cannot be offered halfway. When we stay in a state of indecision, we become what James 1:8 describes: “a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” Indecision creates a divided heart. It keeps you from ever gaining momentum because you are too busy calculating the cost of the "Yes" to actually experience the power of the "Go." You cannot build a life on "maybe," and as we discussed previously, a bird cannot build a nest on a wire, nor can it fulfil its purpose if it refuses to fly.

The Cost of the Fire

Following Jesus is a total relocation of your life. When you finally move away from the fence and offer yourself as a living sacrifice, you are giving God permission to burn away the "middle ground" for good.

Many people fear this because they think the fire will consume their happiness. In reality, the fire only consumes the things that were keeping you lukewarm, the toxic habits, the prideful plans, and that lingering urge to climb back onto the fence. The cost is your life, but the reward is His presence.

Catching the Curveballs

When you are paralysed by indecision, life’s curveballs feel like a death blow because you haven’t fully committed to the One who can catch them. You are still wobbling, trying to balance your own strength against the weight of the world.

But when you commit, when you decide that there is no looking back at the fence, those curveballs serve a different purpose. They become the oxygen for your faith. For a heart that is truly on fire, the trials of life don't put the flame out; they build the endurance necessary to fulfil the purpose you were created for.

Living the "All In" Life

Clarity rarely comes to those who are standing still; it comes to those who are moving. Staying off the fence requires more than just a one-time jump; it requires a daily decision to value His will over your own convenience.

The middle ground is a myth that steals your time and erodes your calling. Stop waiting for a perfect sign and start offering a perfect surrender. Don't look back at the fence, he path forward is where the fire falls.

Today's Reflection

  1. The Thief of Time: Now that you've identified the fence, how much of your purpose is still being delayed because you are "pausing" at the starting line?

  2. The Double-Minded Trap: In what area of your life are you still trying to "walk the line" instead of walking the path?

  3. The Trade-Off: Are you more afraid of the fire of surrender, or the slow erosion of staying exactly where you are?

The world is full of people who are merely interested in Jesus, but the Kingdom is built by those who are fully surrendered to Him, so open your hands, offer your life, and remember that the fire is always worth the sacrifice.
